Peninsula Health is proud to have been recognised for its role in improving health outcomes for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community at last night’s Victorian Public Healthcare Awards in Melbourne.

Proudly Inclusive: the journey to achieving Rainbow Tick accreditation won the ‘Improving LGBTI Health’ category.

Peninsula Health’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, David Anderson, says the award is a wonderful recognition for everyone who worked on achieving the accreditation.

“Being the first full public health service in Australia to achieve the Rainbow Tick is a significant achievement for Peninsula Health,” says Mr Anderson.

“I would like to thank all our staff who put so much effort into this project which will dramatically improve the health and wellbeing of our LGBTI community.”

Mr Anderson also praised the members of Peninsula Health’s LGBTI Community Advisory Group for their role in the accreditation.

“Our community representatives played a pivotal role in this success and I would like to thank them for all the hard work they have put in over many months and years.”

Peninsula Health’s Rainbow Tick Accreditation Project Manager, Rebecca Thompson, says the changes made at Peninsula Health ensure everyone is treated equally and individually.

“The Rainbow Tick Accreditation is not about changing individual beliefs or personal values, it is ensuring that everybody has equity in their healthcare and place of work,” says Ms Thompson.

“It’s about ensuring the services we provide at Peninsula Health are delivered in ways that are non-discriminatory, GLBTI inclusive and welcoming for everybody,” adds Ms Thompson.
